E. Martene Craig,
Executive Director
and Founder
of ARISE (Arts in Service)

Martene received her music education at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music. She is also a graduate of California State University at Fullerton and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and is ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance.

Martene served over 25 years as Minister of Music in three churches (small, medium-sized, and large), developing extensive graded choral and instrumental programs in each. Having established a School of Fine Arts in a church setting,

Martene served for two years as director of the Creative Arts Academy at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, California.

She went on to found and administrate ARISE Academy of the Arts, a training ground for the discovery and development of the expressive gifts in children, youth, and adults. For 11 years, she taught and directed music for ARISE theatre performance troupes––ranging in age from preschool through college. Martene was also the producer and musical director for the ARISE Performing Arts Theatre. For several years, ARISE performance groups, under her direction, have been featured at Americafest, Pasadena Rosebowl's Fourth of July fireworks show.

Martene is also well known as the creator and director of the 'Round-the-Table Carol Sings. Starting with 200 participants and an audience of 1200, this musical extravaganza grew to involve 1200 participants with annual audiences of 14,000 people.

Under her leadership, musical groups have performed on radio and television and have toured extensively as musical missionaries and ambassadors of goodwill throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Martene Craig is a popular clinician, choral and instrumental director, and consultant to churches and organizations interested in ministering through the arts. She is a columnist for music publications, and has vast experience as a guest director, and music festival adjudicator. She regularly participates in the Christian Artists Music Seminar of the Rockies in Colorado and

Impressions

These are some of the impressions
Martene Craig has made on people around the world.

"Martene Craig has long been a defining force in Christian worship and the arts, and she continues to inspire and motivate through her dynamic teaching ministry. I don't have words at my command to describe the impact she has made and is making on 'our world.' Martene is always on the leading edge of innovation, but her focus is always on the development of the artistic and spiritual gifts of the individual -- the child, the youth, or the adult. Many are effectively leading in churches and schools today because of the inspired ministry of E. Martene Craig."
O.D. HALL JR.,Composer/Arranger; Director of MUSICalifornia, Mission Hills, CA - email: odhalljr@aol.com

"Her energy level is like an atomic explosion . . . anything Martene does with music comes off like pure magic. Her groups sparkle with disciplined musicianship which is an outstanding credit to her capability as a director."
PAUL JOHNSON, Composer/Arranger, Seattle, WA - email: pj4mail@aol.com

"I've yet to unravel the mystery of how God packed so much experience, enthusiasm, energy, and encouragement into one small woman. Just one taste of this amazing woman's bounty of experience with reaching people through the arts and I guarantee you'll order everything on the menu!"
SUSAN LENZKES, Author/Lecturer, San Diego, CA - email: slenzkes@earthlink.net

"Her commitment to excellence, belief in the individual, and professionalism are evident in every project with which she affiliates. She is one of the few who can see the big picture, but never lose sight of any of the details. If you're looking for the highest performance standards, call Martene."
H.H. HANSON, Producer, AmericaFest at the Rose Bowl (Fourth of July Fireworks Show), Pasadena, CA

"The program arrangements were excellent and very professional. Your use of many art modes was very fresh and delightful. Many people were so impressed by your spirit that they came to see you several times. This speaks well of your ability."
DAVID CHU, Executive Director, Youth For Christ, Hong Kong

"I attended one of her seminars at the Christian Artists' Seminar in Estes Park [Colorado]. The material she presented was diverse and practical. Carrying a stack of her handouts, I left the conference knowing I'd found a dynamic clinician who had a passion to impact lives and ministries."
SUSAN ZARTMAN, Administrator of the Music Department, Concert Series, and Hosanna! at Grace Brethren Church, Columbus, OH

"I love you [Martene] for your love for the ministry and for your infectiousness. It rubs off on all of us. More than likely I would not have written "'Specially for Shepherds" had it not been for your insistence. It is just ink on paper until you and your choirs, soloists, and instrumentalists put it all together and make it come alive. I thank you for all you mean to us."
RALPH CARMICHAEL, Composer/Arranger, Woodland Hills, CA

Miss Craig is available as a clinician and/or consultant in all areas of the arts. She is internationally renowned for her leadership and motivational workshops and seminars.
